New requirements for company websites and electronic communications
As of 1 January 2007 every company is now required to list the following information
on its website, order forms and electronic documents :
* registered company name (not just its trading name)
* company registration number
* place of registration
* address of registered office
The Companies Act 1985 already required this information to be shown on all
companies’ business letters and the amendments are mainly to account
for the fact that most business now rely extensively on electronic communications.
Although the new legislation does not specify how and where the information
should be displayed on websites we recommend you display the information on
your home page so that it is easily visible and also on your contact details
page. The information does not need to appear on every page of a website.
Please remember that businesses are already obliged under the E-commerce Regulations
2002 to provide the following information on their websites:
* the name and address of the business, and the name and address of the contracting
organisation if this differs from its trading name
* membership details and registration number of any trade or professional association
of which the business is a member
* VAT number (if any), even if the website is not used for e-commerce transactions
Please contact us if you have any questions about the new regulations
